Nuova Simonelli is an Italian company with experience and tradition going back many years. It has been making espresso machines, which it exports all over the world, since 1936. History

  • 1936

    Orlando Simoneli creates his first espresso coffee machine in Cessapalombo. He names it ‘1936’ after the year of its construction. For the time, it is already an innovative and technically advanced device. It is a 2-group column with electrical heating and mains supply water pressure system.

  • 1950

    Simonelli produces the coffee machine ‘Selene’; a technological revolution, it is the first coffee machine in the world with continuous dispensing.

  • 1959

    The launch of ‘Eureka’, the machine with innovative design and technology. It is equipped with an oil pump, two 5-litre boilers and a heat exchanger.

  • 1969

    Following a management buy-out, the company changes ownership and from ‘Simonelli’ becomes ‘Nuova Simonelli’.

  • 1973

    The coffee bar moves into households. ‘Elli’ is the first Nuova Simonelli coffee machine designed for families and small communities. It is equipped with an internal pump, heat exchanger, steam wand and copper boiler. A semi-professional machine with home furnishing design. Much more than just a small electrical appliance.

  • 1975

    Presentation of ‘ISX’, the first coffee machine with electronic components. The machine was available in electronic and semi-automatic versions with volumetric dispenser.

  • 1982

    The birth of ‘Mia’, the family espresso coffee machine. Unique for its modern, compact and very original design. Even with its very reduced dimensions, it is equipped with a complete system of mechanical parts derived from professional machines.

  • 1984

    The arrival of the first super-automatic Nuova Simonelli-branded machine. It’s called ‘Logica’ and is presented as being highly innovative: just press a button and the machine does the rest. The ease of use of this new machine opens the door to new international markets.

  • 1985

    The launch of ‘Program’, the first traditional coffee machine equipped with a real on-board computer. The semi-automatic version simplifies basic operations whilst maintaining high quality. The volumetric version uses electronics to program functions, such as automatic on/off, electronic grind control (patented), computer and cash register connection.

  • 1990

    Nuova Simonelli presents ‘Yacht Club’, the only professional espresso coffee machine of its kind. The housing, with a tempered glass porthole, is made of natural olive, elm or olive-ash wood. Its image and name make an instant connection with the sea, port bars, sailing clubs, beach resorts and seaside restaurants and hotels.

  • 1993

    Nuova Simonelli has affirmed its presence in foreign markets, the USA division is founded in Ferndale, Washington state.

  • Electronics applied to coffee machines takes a great step forward with the ‘Master’ model. The Master range is made up of Master Coffee, Master Coffee Plus and the cup warmer module Master Cup. Master Coffee is a super-automatic machine with a quantity-control dispenser that helps the barista. It grinds, tamps and dispenses the coffee and ejects the used grounds.

  • 1999

    The launch of ‘Oscar’, the semi-professional coffee machine with high-level technical features. It has a thermo-compensated group, a semi-professional portafilter and thermosyphon water heating system.

  • 2001

    Nuova Simonelli presents ‘Jazz’, a compact machine that’s easy to use and always clean.

  • The launch of ‘Caffetteria Italiana’. Its extraordinary features include a double grinder-doser (with customisable flavour by mixing two types of coffee), double boiler, variable setting dispenser group, tamping pressure programming, remote connection via internet for regulation and technical assistance.
  • 2003

    On the occasion of the Host trade fair in Milan, Nuova Simonelli presents the market with two absolute firsts: ‘Aurelia’ and ‘Microbar’. Microbar was included in 100 best examples of Italian design, recognised and selected for the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award.

  • 2004

    ‘Aurelia’ is Nuova Simonelli’s flagship machine. It is named after a celebrated Roman road to underline its durability over time. It has many features that make it unique and a technological reference point amongst traditional espresso coffee machines: the softness of the portafilter closure, the distance between groups, the materials used for the controls, the adjustable luminosity of the display, the ease of cleaning, the push&pull system, the wide visibility of the worktop.
  • 2005

    The launch of ‘Appia’ – the semi-automatic and volumetric coffee machine. It has a lot in common with the Aurelia machine: autosteam – to program the temperature of the milk to be heated – and the SIS system – with the ‘soft’ double pre-infusion system that soaks the coffee bed for a creamier espresso. Appia is an essential machine, but with outstanding performance features.
  • 2006

    Nuova Simonelli celebrates 70 years of business with the launch of ‘Espresso Ideas’, the magazine that’s full of ideas for people who work in the world coffee.
  • 2008

    ‘Aurelia’ is selected as the official coffee machine for the World Barista Championship 2008-2011.
  • 2012

    ‘Aurelia II’ with its innovative T3 technology is confirmed as the official machine for the World Barista Championship 2012-2014.
  • 2013

    For the Host trade fair in Milan, Nuova Simonelli presents ‘Mythos One’, the on-demand compact machine that guarantees consistent doses and, above all, a better flavour in the espresso.

  • 2017

    Nuova Simonelli presents the market with the new ‘Aurelia Wave’ that represents a wave of innovation in the growth of the coffee industry. Aurelia Wave offers new technologies such as Smart Water Technology, eco-sustainability, digital interface, Pulse Jet ergonomics and technology, T3 technology and Pulse-Purge technology.

  • ‘Prontobar Touch’ is presented at the Host trade fair to be acclaimed as the super-automatic machine with the most advanced technology, with elegant and compact style emphasised by its linear design.
